The summer madness had dissipated and we headed out early enough - the result: no crowds, an opportunity to totally unplug within the confines of a major international city and get lost, on the fringe. Yes, I finally made it to Camp Cove! The (partially) cobblestoned walk to South Head and the views, both out the heads into the Tasman Sea and back up the harbour to the CBD, were stunning.

In a previous essay, I mentioned the unfortunate souls who'd lost their lives when the Dunbar was wrecked at The Gap. Soon after that the third lighthouse in Australia, Hornby Lighthouse, was built and, of course, a Lighthouse Keepers cottage was also built. The first lighthouse keeper was none other than James Johnson, the sole survivor of the Dunbar. Life can be strange sometimes! The lighthouse is under renovation as you can see from the aerial shot below, which I made late last year.
