What Does Living Life to its Fullest Mean to Me?

At Days to Live, we ask every participant a single, powerful question: “What does living life to its fullest mean to you, today?” Their answers inspire our portraits, connect us to their stories, and remind us all of the beauty in resilience and renewal.
But this question isn’t just for others—it’s one I ask myself regularly. As the founder of Days to Live, my life has been shaped by moments of profound challenge and extraordinary renewal.
Today, I’d like to share my own reflection on what living life to its fullest means to me.
What Does Living Life to Its Fullest Mean to Me, Today?
Living life to its fullest, for me, is about embracing the fragility and beauty of every moment. It’s about knowing that each heartbeat is a gift—a reminder that I’ve been given a second chance to create, connect, and inspire. Having faced the reality of mortality, I no longer take time for granted.
Today, living fully means pushing boundaries—not just for myself, but for others. It’s about pouring my energy into Days to Live, a project that connects me with people around the world and celebrates their resilience. It’s knowing that through storytelling and photography, I can make an impact, helping others reflect on their own lives and find meaning in their challenges.
Living fully is also about gratitude: for my family, for the opportunities I’ve been given, and for the chance to wake up every morning and do work that matters. It’s finding joy in the small things—an early morning walk on Bondi Beach, the warmth of the sun, the sound of the waves—and grounding myself in those moments.
There’s also a unique, sublime freedom I feel when I’m making aerial fine art with my favorite camera from an open-door aircraft. Suspended between the earth and sky, with nothing but the wind and the world below, I’m reminded of the vastness of life’s possibilities. Those moments, capturing beauty from above, feel like a meditation—a celebration of creativity, perspective, and the boundless wonder of our planet.
Most importantly, living fully means living authentically. It’s staying true to my purpose, embracing creativity, and recognizing that every challenge I’ve faced has shaped the person I am today. It’s about leaving a legacy that inspires others to see beauty in their struggles and hope in their tomorrows.
Today, living life to its fullest is a promise I make to myself: to live boldly, love deeply, and continue to shine a light on the resilience of the human spirit.
I hope my reflection inspires you to think about your own answer to this question. What does living life to its fullest mean to you, today?

Thanks, Rand, for a beautiful and inspiring post. A friend of mine lived for a decade with a donated heart, and he lived with the same gratitude and conviction that you describe. I'm a Vietnam War survivor who faced his mortality at age 25. That experience gave me a similar outlook. We have all been blessed by adversity.
