Writ Large: a gripping novel, that's brilliantly pacy and engaging
Feedback after a month of serialisation
A little over two months ago I sent out my first note in more than a little while. In it I mentioned that I would be serialising my debut novel, Writ Large, from early November.
The good news is I’m publishing Chapter 5 of Writ Large this week! In order to make it more digestible I’ve divided the chapters into three parts and I’m posting these parts out during the course of a week so that the release cadence is one chapter per week. The first part was released on the 1st of November.
It has been really gratifying to engage with my readers and get meaningful feedback on the book.
Here are some examples of feedback:
- I love the way the story is unfolding. It's so pacy and engaging, and I really enjoy receiving a manageable chunk of novel to read each day.
- Suspect this book could be a blockbuster from what I've read so far. Also has film/TV potential - is so easy to picture the scenes.
- Great writing!
- I am thoroughly enjoying reading this! Can't wait to read more!
- I love the use of imagery in the beginning of the story. It really drew me in. "...the engine humming, the sky allowing us passage, the world thriving below us." The subtle use of dialogue throughout was also great. I can't wait to continue reading!
- Whimsical and retrospective.
- A gripping novel that’s brilliantly pacy and engaging
- A short, brilliant bit of novel every day
- A really compelling novel that has me itching to read the next instalment
- This is a brilliant novel serialisation, delivered in manageable chunks. Strongly recommend subscribing
- Thank you for continuing to share your story. I'm enjoying reading snip-its every few days. The characters are great and so relatable.
In addition to serialising Writ Large, I’m also serialising a collection of poetry called F*CK EVERYTHING. Essentially on days when the novel isn’t released, I’m posting a poem together with its matching illustration by the brilliant Yvonne Burgess.* It’s being called pithy poetry.
Personally I’m finding this whole creative exercise to be great for increasing my community engagement. Imagine one day you’re charging along in your career and then it’s over because of medical reasons the next day. How would you feel? Angry, depressed, frustrated, sorry for yourself. Well f*ck that sh*t, I say! I’ve chosen to be positive and make an effort to get out there, to engage as much as I can and ultimately, to inspire others who are suffering chronic illness and disability, while also advocating for transplants.
I’d love it if you’d join me on my writing journey. You can easily catch up on the first five chapters of Writ Large and the short poems within F*CK EVERYTHING by going to conked.io. If you’d like to not miss out on anything I release then sign up for conked.io, or if you’d prefer to only receive the novel or the poetry you can subscribe to those sections separately.
